Selena Najar is a Mexican-American artist born and raised in Inglewood, California. Najar creates paintings and ceramics that feature iconic architectural and cultural symbols of the city of Inglewood. Their art is inspired by their study of Inglewood’s cultural history through collecting vintage postcards, matchbooks, and other paper ephemera. They are driven to inspire an appreciation for the city’s unique architectural structures and solidarity with those affected by gentrification and systemic racism. Najar was a teaching artist assistant for CSUDH PRAXIS Arts Program and a member of both the DH Ceramics Guild and the DH Arts Collective. They were also an executive board member of M.E.Ch.A ’s Dominguez Hills chapter for 2022-2023. Najar received an AA in Arts and Humanities from El Camino College in 2021.
