Biochar Workshop
Noon – 2 p.m.
The CSUDH Biochar Supercapacitor Research Group will facilitate an interactive biochar-based paint workshop that explores concepts related to conservation of matter and energy. Thanks to donations from Friends of the Los Angeles River, our paint is created from the biomass of invasive plant species found in the Los Angeles River system. Learn more about the different ways that carbon can be captured and re-purposed while painting and making fun science-themed potato stamp art.
The CSUDH Biochar Supercapacitor Research Group
Since 2022, the CSUDH Biochar Supercapacitor Research Group has focused on incorporating biochar into the construction of supercapacitors, which are electrical components used for energy storage. Our group’s efforts purposefully combine using readily available household items for the construction of our supercapacitors paired with specifically incorporating biochar. Our goal is to make the replication of these EDLCs simpler, more affordable and therefore more accessible to others for educational and application purposes as well as promote carbon sequestration in the process. The research group also provides science education workshops in the Los Angeles area related to biochar and its many uses.
