em aguilar is an interdisciplinary chicano artist based in Southeast Los Angeles. They create intimate works that display the trauma and struggles associated with identity through existentialism and escapism. From installations to painted pieces, they create otherworldly spaces using familiar and nostalgic visual language. Their works express contemplation through vibrant and dizzying imagery. Drawing inspiration from childhood memories, aguilar uses a variety of materials to create unsettling environments. Oil and acrylic paint, yarn, fabric, found objects, sound, ceramics, and film are used to create these narrative scenarios.
