Isai De Los Angeles is a Los Angeles-based artist raised in South Central who works in painting, photography, sculpture, and ceramics. He is inspired by local family-owned businesses, both past and present, to create artwork that investigates labor and family history. Isai’s current body of work consists of portraits of his mother and father, honoring their family-owned dry cleaning business. Isai uses photo transfers in his paintings to convey family history.
De Los Angeles received a Praxis teaching artist fellowship award. His work is archived in the CSUDH Donald R. & Beverly J. Gerth Archives and Special Collections and has been published in Enjambed magazine. Isai’s work has been exhibited in galleries across Southern California including: Black Umbrella Tattoo and Art Gallery, Winston Hewitt Studio, and the University Art Gallery at California State University, Dominguez Hills.
In addition to his practice, Isai has installed art and worked directly with artists at galleries such as Launch LA and Residency Art Gallery, as well as providing artist support for the first Candlewood Arts Festival (2019) held in Borrego Springs, CA.
