Brackish Water Los Angeles is an art and research project housed at Cal State Dominguez Hills’ University Art Gallery, co-directed by Aandrea Stang and Debra Scacco. Part of The Getty’s PST ART: Art + Science 2024 initiative, this project looks at the ecosystems, infrastructures, and politics surrounding brackish water, which refers to the space where salt and fresh waters meet.
PST ART: Art + Science Collide
Southern California’s landmark arts event, PST ART (previously Pacific Standard Time), returns in September 2024 with more than 818 artists, 50 exhibitions, and 1 mind-blowing theme: Art & Science Collide.
This “collision” will explore the intersections of Art and Science, both past and present, with diverse organizations activating exhibitions on topics like ancient cosmologies, Indigenous sci-fi, environmental justice, and artificial intelligence.
PST Art is a Getty initiative.
Exhibition – Opening August 2024
In the forthcoming exhibition, visitors will be introduced to scientific content through an exploration of art and objects, creating a conversation about specificity of place, and a complex narrative of expansion and growth. We will include multiple objects from the natural world, as well as both historical and contemporary art works, offering an experience that simultaneously instigates awe, raises questions about inequality and ecological justice, and prompts new territory for dialogue.
